Who are the Top Mobile Imaging Providers in the US?

The mobile market has ebbed and flowed over the last two decades. In the early 2000’s, the demand for mobile routes expanded and technology upgrades grew the need for interim mobile options. The Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) of 2005 led to a significant decline in the demand for mobile service and yet, in the last several years, need for mobiles has risen again.

This current flow in mobile imaging has led to expanding and upgrading fleets to meet the needs of customers around the nation. But not all mobile fleets are built, maintained, or managed to the same standard. If you’re considering an interim mobile solution- whether long-term rental or starting with a day or two per week on a mobile route- we want to help you find the best provider for you, whether or not it’s Block Imaging. The following guide to the top names in the mobile imaging space is designed to help narrow and simplify your search for an equipment provider.

Interim Solutions

While many of the organizations listed in the Mobile Route category (we’ll get there in a minute) also provide interim mobile solutions, the following are several organizations that focus on short and long-term “full-time” equipment rentals.

KMG

Located in northeast Ohio, with particular fleet focus in Siemens MRI and GE CT, KMG has a vast array of experience from project management to billing, marketing, and beyond. Over the years KMG has operated imaging centers and continues to partner with practices across the nation with fixed site and mobile placements.

Catalina Imaging

Located in California, Catalina Imaging has become a widely-respected provider of CT mobile solutions with a particular emphasis in the Toshiba CT space.

MPX

Located in Michigan and carrying extensive experience, MPX oversees a fleet of CT scanners available for short and long-term interim rentals.

Cube Mobile Imaging

With an emphasis on Siemens MRI and GE CT, and PET/CT, each unit in Cube Mobile Imaging’s fleet has been refurbished and upgraded within the last 24 months. Cube also offers 24/7 service coverage through their in-house service team and nation-wide engineering network.

Mobile Routes + Interim Solutions

Along with interim solutions, the companies in this category help support healthcare providers with scheduled scanning solutions (e.g. Monday of each week). These providers often include transportation, set-up, and staffing technologists. These options are an especially good fit for facilities with smaller patient volumes that can be scheduled on the same day(s) of the week.

Alliance Healthcare

Arguably the most seasoned provider in the industry, Alliance has supported a fleet carrying several hundred mobiles for over 20 years. With a large presence nationwide and a particularly strong presence in the western region, Alliance carries a broad fleet of Siemens and GE MR, CT, and PET/CT.

Insight Imaging

A division of CDI in Minneapolis, Insight is another substantial nationwide mobile provider for MRI, CT, and PET/CT. With over 8,000 deliveries per year, Insight is well-equipped to support customers in efforts from providing routes, to parked mobiles, to partnerships.

Shared Imaging

Shared Imaging has been a major mobile provider in the imaging space for quite some time. Headquartered in Illinois, as part of their DI Revolution, Shared Imaging seeks to support customers from planning to execution in the mobile arena and beyond.

Shared Medical

The Shared Medical MRI, CT, PET/CT, and Digital Mammography fleet has grown enormously over the last decade. Shared Medical is an employee-owned company and primarily relies on OEM service nationwide.

DMS Health

DMS is currently owned by Digirad and specializes in Philips, GE, and Siemens CT, MRI, and PET/CT. Headquartered in North Dakota, DMS has been working with imaging facilities since 1972.

The Takeaway

We won’t say that a mobile provider who isn’t on this list can’t serve you well, but in our 22 years in the medical imaging business, these providers have stood the test of time well. We hope this list is helpful as you look for the right mobile solution for your needs. And, as you look, the Block Mobile Imaging team appreciates the opportunity to support you in any way we can!
