With the end of November nearly upon us, it's time for another trip to Chicago's McCormick Place for the annual RSNA meeting. As with meetings passed, the program for RSNA 2014 is seemingly overflowing with brain candy for the medical imaging geek in all of us: an X-ray art exhibit, a virtual presentation by radiology forefather, Wilhelm Roentgen, informative speakers from across the field, and much more.
With all of these "big picture" events on the docket for next week, we wanted to take a little time to ask some of the individuals on our team one-on-one what they're most excited about.
Stephen Loomis, Service Account Executive, will be attending the meeting for the first time this year. "I guess I expect it to be the 'Detroit Auto Show' of imaging equipment," he said. "I am really looking forward to actually meeting the customers and vendors that I've been working with over the phone... and gaining a better understanding of their needs."
I will also be a first-timer at RSNA this year. As Content Manager for Block Imaging's marketing team, I'm excited to immerse myself in what will be trending in the imaging field over the next year. The kind of industry and product knowledge that come out at RSNA are just what we need to keep blogging on relevant information for our readers and customers. For those of you who won't be able to make it, be sure to check back next week to see daily coverage directly from the floor of McCormick Place.
Company President, Josh Block, who's been to more than a few RSNA meetings, was able to provide some commentary from the more experienced end of the spectrum. He said, "RSNA is a wonderful opportunity to feel the imaging industry progression. [It's] the proverbial “catwalk” of radiological technology." Specifically, Josh mentioned early detection in oncology as one of the topics he was most looking forward to seeing on that 'catwalk'. He described the specialty as, "a phenomenally meaningful space to see manufacturers investing".
Jason Crawford, Block Imaging's President of Parts & Service and another inveterate RSNA attendee, commented on RSNA's offerings from a marketplace perspective saying, "With all the consolidation our industry has seen, many parts, service, and refurbished equipment companies have expanded their capabilities. This will be an RSNA where companies that we've known for years, will discover new opportunities to work together and pursue unique growth in the marketplace."
Beyond the technology and the evolving marketplace, there was another important aspect of attending RSNA that I had to probe into as well: Where are the best places to grab a bite with friends, clients, and industry partners? Josh Block was more than happy to chime in with a couple of favorites: "As a gentlemen who has a particular fondness for beef, Smith and Wollensky's is a favorite. Maggiano's family-style pasta moves an evening to fullness and laughter. And, we musn’t forget cheesecake- they have a factory for that!"
Will You Join Us?
Whether you're a first-timer or a veteran, RSNA is a wonderful week to catch up on what's new with the people you serve and the products you provide. It's a time to dive into the future in a fresh way and gain a broadened perspective on the people who are serving and being served by the radiology field around the world.
If you plan to attend, we'd love to see you there! Contact us to set up a meeting or simply drop by the Block Imaging booth, 3129 hall A.
