4 Common C-Arm Problems and Solutions

Toshiba Aquilion 64 CT scanners come with two different generator types: the SRU generator, or the Spellman generator. To help you discern which Aquilion generator is in use at your facility, we'll outline below two ways you can find out whether you have a Spellman generator or an SRU.
Now, you may be asking, "Why do I need to know this?" Great question! Here are a few reasons why:
• Your parts supplier or service provider will need to know.
• Service and replacement costs differ between the two types. The Spellman is newer and more powerful and, consequently, costs more to replace.
• Availability of replacement parts differs between the two types.
• It's very simple to find this information.

Outer Labels
This is the simplest way to check. Toshiba gantries have a series of labels on the back right-hand cover of the gantry. The label denoting the generator type is usually the bottom one. The number/letter sequence listed next to "Model" will tell you your generator type.
• Spellman: CXXB-012A
• SRU: CXXB-008A
Check the label first. If it has been scuffed or torn to a point where the model number is illegible, you can use the next method to tell which generator you have with a quick visual check.
Look in the Gantry
Both generator types also have some visual characteristics that can help you discern which one your system has. Open up your front gantry cover and look for the following:
An Aquilion equipped with a Spellman generator, like the one pictured at the right, is clearly labelled with the Spellman logo on two sides (A and B). Another visually apparent indicator is the large open space on the right-hand side of the gantry (C) when the tube is at the twelve o' clock position.
An Aquilion gantry equipped with an SRU generator has two large assemblies inside, the SRU-H and SRU-L. When the tube is at the twelve o' clock position, these occupy the nine and three o' clock positions (A and B). The X-ray control board is out front at the eleven o' clock position, behind a mesh grill (C).

It makes sure that everyone is on the same page should any generator-related parts need to be sent your way, and allows for much more accurate quoting in a service conversation.
