As first-time attendees, my colleague and I weren’t sure what to expect from the Clinical Engineering Association of Illinois’ (CEAI) annual conference but, after this year’s event, we can say our experience was positive enough to bring us back next year. Over the course of the conference we experienced a few key reasons why CEAI is a great show for imaging dealers to attend and wanted to share them with you.
The Importance of Networking
We are on the phone most days buying and selling parts so it was fun to finally meet some of the people on the other end of the phone. We already had a connection with these people (we talk to them nearly every day) but it builds and maintains the relationship on a new level when we can interact in person.
We also got to see some people we don’t always talk to. It was the perfect opportunity to establish new relationships and get the company name in front of them. Nothing energized us more than when we met a hospital administrator that had never heard of us and they learned we had what they were looking for.
Understanding Your Role in the Industry
Sitting behind a desk and computer all day doing your daily tasks can become so routine that you forget the reason you’re doing what you do. Taking a break from the repetition and meeting engineers, hospital directors, and other vendors that you have daily contact with but don’t see face-to-face is a chance to see the big picture. It is a great way to be connected and feel you are working with a team of other vendors to help people around the world.
Learning How to Improve What You Do
Nobody knows better how you can improve than the people you are interacting with on a daily basis. Spending time with these people is an opportunity to learn how to better communicate with each other, how to improve response time, and how to work with so many different personalities toward a common goal.
We enjoyed meeting the people we talk to regularly and getting to know how they work and what works best for them. It was also a unique experience to meet new people for the first time and share what Block Imaging can do for them. On a side note, we also had fun collecting the free swag everyone brought along (especially the drink cozies). Overall, CEAI was a valuable learning experience for both my colleague and I. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to go and recommend that any of our industry partners who missed out this year make plans to attend in 2013.
