Usually the Quality Assurance Manager doesn’t get to attend shows like this. I’m not sure of exactly why, but I suspect it has something to do with overhead and not being in the sales department…blah blah blah.
It could be that I generally make the other departments nervous. Sometimes they worry that my penchant for strict compliance will jinx a sale. I’m not saying it hasn’t happened; I have been called “Sales Prevention” a time or two, but apparently it wasn’t too likely to happen at MD Expo, so I was allowed to attend this time. :-)
As a rookie attendee, I would like to share with you the top 4 reasons why I think MD Expo is worth attending if you’re a medical dealer.
Getting to know who you work with:
It was a pleasure meeting so many people that we work with regularly on a face-to-face basis. In our line of business there are a lot of email, LinkedIn, and phone conversations, but very little face time. It’s such a treat to get to know the people we work with on a much more personal level in a laid-back environment. Hearing about their families and how their businesses are growing builds a much stronger bond of trust for future partnerships.
Talking about ways you can improve business relationships:
We ALL have room for improvement in this area and what better way to find out the areas that need improvement than to have a heart-to-heart with a customer. So many times in our day-to-day business we are too busy trying to get work done that we don’t have time to have those conversations with a valued customer. Chances are, they don’t have the time either. We want our business relationships to flourish and improving on them will make that happen. MD Expo is a great venue to take a deep breath and ask the tough question, “How are we doing?” Give them your full attention and be ready for honest feedback.
Who are you and what do you do?
Discovering new companies in the industry or ones you just didn’t know about is like finding a hidden treasure! New business partners are always a plus and this is a great place for meeting them and talking about what your expertise is and how you can help each other.
Educational Seminars: Knowledge is Power!
WOW! I was amazed at how many educational seminars were available for attendees. They put on 30 educational seminars in 2 days; what a great way to get educated in this industry. In the pre-owned medical imaging equipment field there is no instruction manual. We learn from one another and the platform that MD Expo and other shows like it offer keeps us all educated.
My colleagues and I sat in on 3 education seminars and gained something valuable from each one. We were also fortunate enough to add to this amazing library of knowledge and experience with our own seminar: Passwords, Codes, and Keys in Imaging. It was compelling to hear both sides of the proverbial coin speak out; being taught to and doing some teaching. Great fun with valuable take-aways!
There are a few other fabulous reasons to attend MD Expo: the food, the free swag, the location, the wonderful staff who answered all my questions (and as a noob, I had many), but the four I’ve outlined above are the ones that will keep me going back. I loved meeting everyone and hope I will have the opportunity to see you all again very soon!
And... For those of you who plan to attend more medical dealer tradeshows this year, we will be presenting our educational seminar Passwords, Codes, and Keys in Imaging a second time at the annual AAIMI conference on June 3rd at 1:00PM. We'd love to see you all there!
