cr system computed radiography systemThe world has gone digital, but there are still a few of you struggling with wet film processors trying to figure out if a CR system will save you money. To find the answer to that question, you will need to do a little math.  I know you probably just groaned audibly, but stick with me... the equation is pretty easy to understand, and it's all laid out in the video below.

For your reference, here's a text version of the equations covered in the video

Collect the following information:

  • Your CR system quote
  • Cost of film, chemicals and (if applicable) service

Now you are ready to make the comparison to determine if switching to a CR system will save you money.

Use These 2 Equations:

CR Cost

    (Monthly Payment on Financed CR)

+  (Monthly Service – if applicable)

    (CR Monthly Cost of Ownership)

Wet Film Processor Cost

(Average Scan Volume per Day)  x  (Scanning Days per Month)  x  (Cost per Piece of Film)

+  (Cost of Wet Processor Chemicals per Month)

+   (Monthly Wet Processor Service – if applicable)

(Wet Processor Monthly Cost of Ownership)

Evaluating this CR Cost vs Wet Film Processor Cost should give you a clear answer as to which makes the most economic sense for your practice. If you find that it is time to make the switch to CR, you should check out this related article and video, "How to Turn Your Analog X-ray into a Digital X-ray System" by utilizing a computed radiography (CR) system.

Remember CR is still one step away from direct digital and Block Imaging has some great options for these as well (especially since the price of direct digital has come down considerably).
