Bracco Rubidium Generator Update Oct2011The answer to the question everyone has been asking – “When will Bracco resume shipments of their Rubidium generators?" – is closer than ever.

In a letter dated October 17, 2011, Bracco’s VP, Kim Giordano and Senior Sales Director, Kim McDaniel told customers that they anticipate a “limited and progressive reintroduction” of the generators.

Read the entire letter here.

So what does this mean for folks who have been contemplating buying a used or reconditioned PET or PET/CT?

It means that prices on the scanners are likely to go up significantly as utilization and demand resumes.

Prices on used cardiac PET scanners have slid in recent months due to the fact that no new cardiac sites were being built unless you had a cyclotron in your backyard.  We’ve seen systems that were selling for around $500,000 slide to around $400,000. Many systems are still at this low level but this is sure to change once installs start happening again.

So what should you do?

Talk to your trusted supplier of imaging systems, and see if you could take advantage of the market. If you are going to deploy the system yourself, you may be able to take advantage of the Section 179 deduction as well.

What is there to lose by making a phone call?
