WHAT IS A PET/CT SCANNER?

A PET/CT scanner is used as a combined imaging technique known as Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography.

This system combines the functional information of a PET machine with the detailed images of a CT. It provides medical professionals with comprehensive information about the structure and function of tissues within the body.

WHAT IS IT A PET/CT USED FOR?

PET/CT scanners offer a powerful tool for accurate diagnosis, staging, and monitoring of various medical conditions. They enhance diagnostic accuracy, treatment planning, and ongoing monitoring across a spectrum of medical conditions. These can include:

  • Cancer diagnosis and staging
  • Treatment planning and monitoring
  • Infection and inflammation detection
  • Cardiac imaging

In essence, the multi-purpose capabilities of PET/CT scanners make them indispensable in the field of medicine. To learn more about the benefits and uses of these systems click here!

IS A PET/CT SCANNER THE SAME AS A CT SCANNER?

There are several major differences between the PET/CT scanner and the CT scanner.

CT Scanner (Computed Tomography): A CT scanner uses X-ray images to create detailed cross-sectional "slices" of the body's internal structures. It provides high-resolution anatomical images that help visualize bones, organs, and tissues. CT scans are particularly useful for detecting structural abnormalities, injuries, and diseases, but they do not provide information about metabolic activity.

PET/CT Scanner: The PET component uses a small amount of radiation (tracer) to highlight areas of increased metabolic activity in the body. The CT component provides detailed anatomical images. By merging these two modalities, PET/CT scans offer a comprehensive view of both structure and function. This is especially valuable in oncology for cancer diagnosis, staging, and treatment monitoring.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE COST OF A REFURBISHED PET/CT?
